It was designed for use in the government buildings of Chandigarh, India. This chair, along with other pieces of furniture he created, was intended to complement the modernist architectural style of the city designed by Le Corbusier.

About the designer
Pierre Jeanneret was a Swiss architect and designer, best known for his collaboration with his cousin, Le Corbusier. Born in 1896, Jeanneret worked closely with Le Corbusier on numerous iconic projects, including the Villa Savoye and the Chandigarh Capitol Complex in India. He was instrumental in the development of modernist architecture and furniture design, contributing significantly to the International Style movement.
